Baleba injury 'doesn't look great', says Carrick

Carlos Baleba was forced off for Man Utd during their Champions League win over Roma. Michael Carrick gave an update on the midfielder after he was forced off. The Cameroon international made a promising run into the Roma box shortly after half‑time before pulling up as it looked like he would get a shot away. Baleba immediately grabbed his hamstring and the medical team could not prolong his evening. The 22‑year‑old left the pitch in tears and Carrick said the injury ‘doesn’t look great’ in his post‑match press conference after the 3‑2 comeback victory. Carrick added that there was no further news, it was a hamstring injury and they would assess it over the next few days, noting it initially did not look great and offering no timeframe.

Former United midfielder Nicky Butt said on Amazon Prime that Baleba will be out for a while and that it will not help United as they struggle to field a settled team.

Baleba suffered a hamstring injury against Roma.

He has made an unconvincing start to his Old Trafford career after a £70 million summer move from Brighton and now appears set for a significant spell on the sidelines.

Roma take early lead

Manchester United have endured their worst start to a season in 40 years and were on course for a fourth successive defeat as Roma stormed into a 2‑0 lead at Old Trafford. Matias Soule put the Italians ahead on 11 minutes. Donyell Malen doubled the lead five minutes later from the penalty spot after Ayden Heaven blocked a shot with his arm. On 3 November 2026, Matheus Cunha completed United’s comeback as they defeated Roma 3‑2. United were booed off at half‑time but improved drastically after the break, finding a lifeline just before the hour mark through Bruno Fernandes’ retaken penalty. Carrick’s side still trailed with ten minutes remaining but Matheus Cunha then scored two goals in six minutes to turn the game around and potentially save his manager’s job.

Carrick said it was a good night and gave credit to the players for showing character and quality when needed. He praised Old Trafford, saying the stadium can do incredible, magical things and that the half‑time talk helped the team grow. Carrick added that the win was for the club, that happy supporters are what they live for and that the team showed character to weather recent difficulties.

Manchester United are now 17th in both the Premier League and the Champions League. They face Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Sunday.
