Scalvini: the win over Turkey gave Italy, wants to dominate

Defender Giorgio Scalvini, in training at Coverciano, said that the victory over Turkey gave the Italian national team the necessary awareness to face the challenge against France, scheduled for Friday in Paris in the group stage of the Nations League.

Coach Roberto Mancini emphasized that his philosophy envisions a team capable of dominating the game. “Look for a team that dominates the match, but he also asked us to have fun,” the coach explained after the victory over Turkey.

Italian Defensive School

Scalvini recalled the greats of the Italian defence, citing Fabio Cannavaro, Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini as legends. He added that he has shared training sessions with Bonucci on the staff and learns a lot from them. “Playing with a four‑man line under Sarri helps me, the more I learn the better,” he said.

The next opponent is France, described by Scalvini as “a very strong team, among the best in the world, especially in attack they have qualities superior to everyone.” The defender assured that Italy will analyse the rival with the coach to face them in the best possible way.

Mancini also spoke about the method adopted after the previous defeat: “We wanted to bounce back, the attitude must always be the right one, to seek an identity and bring calm.” He reiterated the importance of having fun in training and off the field, to keep motivation high.

Scalvini praised coach Jürgen Sarri at Atalanta, describing the transparency of his approach as essential. “I am getting along very well with him, transparency is fundamental,” he said, adding that Simone Scamacca “is doing well, has overcome a few years of difficulty and now has a great desire to play.”

In his speech he also mentioned the support of the senators: “The senators are helping a lot, it is very important to take example from them. And it is beautiful to see us together united,” Scalvini commented.

With the awareness gained against Turkey, Italy takes the field against France with the conviction that it can dominate the match and continue its journey in the group stage of the Nations League.
