Scales says experienced players must lift Celtic

Liam Scales highlighted the arrival of a wave of newcomers who lack familiarity with the pressures of representing Celtic, as he reflected on the club’s uneven start to the campaign. The Republic of Ireland defender stressed that seasoned players such as himself must set the standard and steer Celtic back to a run of regular victories.

Recent form and European challenge

Celtic have suffered six defeats and one draw in their last ten league outings and head into Thursday’s Europa League tie with Besiktas on zero points from three matches.

Scales observed that a flood of ins and outs has left the squad still feeling out the club.

He added that newcomers often do not grasp how large the club is and have little time to settle.

Losing close to ten players while ten new faces arrive, he said, makes cohesion difficult, urging the group to keep pushing to recapture the level of a couple of seasons ago.

There were eleven holdovers from last season in the side that fell 2‑0 to Falkirk, while the Bairns fielded eight summer signings at various stages.

Experience needed to lift standards

Scales insisted he is not blaming the new arrivals, stating that responsibility rests with the more experienced players who must lead by example.

He noted that confidence is crucial, adding that any self‑doubt can contribute to a dip in form.

He avoided finger‑pointing, saying the overall level has simply not been good enough and the team is slightly off the required standard.

He reminded everyone that the club’s standards have not been met in recent years and that restoring them is essential.

He concluded that winning every week is non‑negotiable, and that a run of form and momentum is vital to get Celtic back on track.
