Runjaic says Udinese alive despite Milan defeat in Serie A clash

Christian Pulisic opened the scoring within six minutes after springing the off‑side trap, as a Luka Modric free‑kick caught the Udinese defenders napping. Omari Hutchinson turned in the rebound after Maduka Okoye parried Ardon Jashari’s strike, while the goalkeeper also palmed a Gonçalo Ramos effort onto the crossbar, keeping the scoreline down.

Runjaic's reaction came straight after the final whistle. “It is not the right time to speak right after the game,” Kosta Runjaic told Italia when asked about his future. “We lost the game, we are all disappointed, including myself. I think tonight we have seen a team full of life, ready to fight, but conceded an easy goal after five minutes and that was a big step back. It was hard to come back from that.”

Injury woes and recent form

Runjaic added that the squad has struggled with injuries and a negative run of results. “We had a lot of problems with injuries and things are going negatively, so it’s not easy for the team. Until Lecce, we didn’t play bad football, and again today I saw the team make the right steps forward to get out of this situation,” he insisted.

He also warned against comparing the current side with last season. “I think it is also not fair to compare the team with last season. We started pretty well until the game with Lazio, but s**t happens, we have everything required, we need unity to do better next game.”

League standing and future outlook

Udinese are now sucked into the danger zone, sitting on four points from eight games alongside Fiorentina and Parma, just one point clear of rock‑bottom Venezia. “It’s sport, we have to accept defeat and can’t change anything at the moment, the situation is what it is, nobody likes it. That’s why I think fair play is very important, I as a coach need to be a role model in that sense,” the coach added.

Reflecting on the match, Runjaic praised a few bright moments. “We had a few good moments with Keinan Davis, we played better in some moments, but luck and quality at the end were lacking, while Milan did a good job.”

UDINE, ITALY – OCTOBER 25: The stadium atmosphere at Stadio Friuli on October 25, 2026 was charged as the Friulani hosted AC Milan.
