Ronaldo says manager betrayed him but vows to stay with Portugal
In a strongly worded statement issued on Tuesday, Cristiano Ronaldo confirmed he will not retire from the Portugal national team, despite a recent clash with coach Jorge Jesus that saw him leave the training camp early and accept responsibility for his departure.
Apology and accusation
The Portuguese star apologised to fans, supporters worldwide and his teammates for the abrupt exit and for not acknowledging the crowd after the match. He justified his actions by accusing Jesus of "completely going back on his word," saying the coach had broken their agreement.
Ronaldo explained that, feeling the coaching staff had reneged, he believed remaining would only harm the squad. He stressed that his misconduct was more serious because of his captaincy and pledged to accept any disciplinary action imposed by the Portuguese Football Federation.

The captain added that, once any punishment is served and provided he stays fit and maintains his club goal‑scoring form, he will be fully available for Portugal’s upcoming Nations League fixtures.
