Ronaldo pays €255 and can play for Portugal again in November

After a departure scandal, the 41‑year‑old record international Cristiano Ronaldo has to pay only €255 and could theoretically be back on the field for Portugal already in the next international match.

Disciplinary sanction in detail

The disciplinary chamber of the Portuguese Football Association (FPF) decided on Monday that Ronaldo will be fined €255 for leaving the training camp early. In addition, he was suspended for 30 days, with the suspension period already starting with the provisional suspension on the day after his departure on 30 September.

Financial burden compared to income

With a weekly salary of around €4 million at the Saudi top‑flight club Al‑Nassr, Ronaldo earns just under €400 per minute, making the fine barely noticeable for him.

Impact on upcoming international matches

The suspension ends before Portugal plays in Denmark on 14 November and in Wales on 17 November as part of the Nations League, meaning Ronaldo would be available for both fixtures. The disciplinary chamber found that Ronaldo deliberately breached Article 160 of the disciplinary code, and the charge was fully upheld.

The incident occurred after Ronaldo left the training camp following the Nations League match in Norway (2–1) before the game against Denmark. National coach Jorge Jesus had previously announced that Ronaldo would be used only for short periods, a promise that, according to Ronaldo, was broken.

Ronaldo apologized in a letter to his teammates and asked the fans for forgiveness. His sister publicly stated that she never wants to work with Jesus again.

In these terms and with the facts presented, the Disciplinary Council of the Portuguese Football Federation decides, in the present case, to find the accusation fully substantiated and, consequently, to condemn the defendant Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro for the commission, on one occasion and with intent, of the disciplinary offence provided for and sanctioned by paragraph 1 of Article 160 of the RDFPF, imposing, consequently, a suspension sanction of 30 (thirty) days and, additionally, a fine of €255.00 (two hundred and fifty‑five euros).

Club teammates such as Vitinha and other players are now calling for Ronaldo's return and are urging coach Jesus to recall him for the upcoming matches against Denmark and Wales.
