Romário backs Ronaldo after leaving Copenhagen and urges Jesus to score

While Cristiano Ronaldo recently left the Portuguese camp in Copenhagen after a row with national team coach Jorge Jesus, Brazilian legend Romário made clear in the Charla Podcast that he would have taken the same step, but that he would have first let out a swear word at the coach.

Romário's support for Ronaldo

In the Charla Podcast Romário stated that he, just like Ronaldo, would have left the camp because Jesus, in his view, had not kept a promise. He called Jesus a “great coach”, but emphasized that breaking a promise “makes a handshake worthless”.

Romário said: “I would have done the same. I would have first said that Jesus should be salted, but I would certainly have left as well.” With this he underscored that he fully understands the decision of the Portuguese star.

The mistake according to Romário

Although Romário supported Ronaldo's departure, he felt that the Portuguese had made a mistake by not first uttering a swear word at Jesus. He said: “In my opinion that was Cristiano's mistake: leaving without telling that guy that he should rot.”

Romário described Ronaldo's “warm‑up” as a “humiliation” and wondered why someone treated that way would not undergo that humiliation again.

The Brazilian added that Jesus let Ronaldo warm up, among other things, without then letting him in, which in his view undermined the agreement between player and coach.

Romário concluded with the remark that Jesus had said nothing about the agreements during the press conference, which meant he had said “no shit”, and that he himself, if he were in Ronaldo's shoes, would have made the same decision.
