Roma's bargain hunt for Wolfsburg midfielder Sael Kumbedi heats up
On a rainy afternoon in Rome’s Stadio Olimpico, scouts from AS Roma huddle over a tablet, eyeing the profile of a 2005‑born French midfielder who could arrive for a modest fee. The club’s pursuit of Sael Kumbedi reflects a desire to strengthen the midfield without heavy spending.
Tony D’Amico, the club’s director of football, is reportedly targeting the Wolfsburg midfielder. Roma is keen to avoid a large outlay while securing a starting‑level player.
Sael Kumbedi has recorded five assists in 24 appearances for VfL Wolfsburg this season. Across his senior career he has amassed 11 assists and a single goal in 124 matches.
VfL Wolfsburg, recently relegated from the Bundesliga, bought Kumbedi for nine million euros. The German side is prepared to negotiate his sale.
Besides Roma, Lazio is also said to be pursuing the 2005‑born talent, while Porto and Feyenoord keep tabs on him. An undisclosed Ligue 1 club, as well as his former teams Olympique Lyonnais and Le Havre, are reportedly interested in bringing him back to France.
The ultimate choice rests with Kumbedi, who faces a crowded field of interested clubs. No shortage of suitors suggests his market value remains attractive despite Wolfsburg’s relegation.
