Roma regain edge as €30m Fenerbahce offer labelled disrespectful

Olympique Marseille have rejected a €30 million written bid from Turkish side Fenerbahce for winger Mason Greenwood, prompting French media to label the offer disrespectful and positioning Roma as the club now ahead in the transfer race as Marseille seek to raise funds amid a serious financial crisis.

The winger’s 2024 move from Manchester United to Marseille was valued at €26 million. Under the transfer clause, Marseille must remit 40 percent of any future sale to Manchester United, inflating the club’s asking price to €55 million.

French transfer specialists at and le10sport described the €30 million proposal as ‘disrespectful’. “It was considered disrespectful” to offer just €30 million, they said.

Reports suggest Greenwood has already reached personal terms with Fenerbahce, yet Roma have emerged as the leading candidates for his signature. The Giallorossi’s interest is reinforced by Marseille’s apparent preference for an Italian buyer.

Roma, however, face their own Financial Fair Play constraints. To free the necessary budget they must first offload either Matias Soulé or Manu Koné.

The developing scenario offers Roma a strategic advantage, as Marseille’s stance indicates a greater willingness to negotiate with the Italian club than with the Turkish side. This dynamic could shape the final destination of Greenwood’s transfer.

Earlier this season, Greenwood featured for Olympique Marseille in a UEFA Champions League League Phase match against Newcastle United on 25 November 2025, where he was challenged by Harvey Barnes.
