River faces fresh exodus as Getafe eyes Matías Viña’s loan departure

An Instagram post confirmed that Matías Viña will not continue at River Camp, signalling the Uruguayan left‑back’s imminent departure. The announcement came as River confirmed it is actively seeking exits for players sidelined at the Cantilo training ground.

The search for exits intensified after Maxi Salas sparked controversy with his move to Independiente Rivadavia, prompting River to cut ties with marginalised squad members. Club officials have focused on clearing the Cantilo facility of players who have fallen out of favour.

Already departed are Paulo Díaz, Santiago Lencina, Maxi Meza, Alex Woiski and Ian Subiabre, all of whom have found new clubs since being listed as surplus. Their exits illustrate the broader exodus that River is orchestrating.

Matías Viña remains one of the few whose future is still unresolved, and in the last hours a club from Europa expressed interest that could enable him to leave Núñez just eight months after arriving. The potential move offers a swift route out of the Argentine capital.

Flamengo, the holder of Viña’s registration, received a call from Getafe, the Spanish side that inquired about loan terms for the left‑back who featured in Uruguay’s World Cup squad compiled by Marcelo Bielsa. The Brazilian club acknowledged the inquiry and began discussions.

Getafe intends to secure Viña on a one‑year loan, and Flamengo has responded positively to the proposal. River has stated it will place no obstacle in the way of the transfer, aiming to finalize the departure as soon as possible.

Viña had been on loan at the Millonario until December, and River attempted to terminate the agreement during this window. However, Flamengo clarified that it must still fulfil its contractual obligation to pay his salary until the end of the loan, leaving the Uruguayan on the list of discarded players.
