CD Tenerife will hold a memorial mass on Saturday in honour of the late Jesus de Miguel, as the Spanish second‑division club announced on Wednesday. All supporters are invited to the ceremony at the Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez‑stadium. Players, coaches and the club management will also be present at the funeral in Navahermosa afterwards, although the date is not yet known.

The remains will be transferred later that day or at the latest on Thursday to a small town about 130 km from Madrid. The local authorities have declared a three‑day mourning period.

Reactions and postponed match

Andorra player Lautaro Spatz expressed his condolences via Instagram after the death of Jesus de Miguel and at the same time defended his teammate goalkeeper Jesus Owono, who was online slandered as a murderer. Spatz said that Owono is “deeply hurt” and quoted: “He is heavily affected by what has happened”. He added: “We who know him know that he would never intentionally hurt anyone. He is deeply hurt and is taking a lot of time off currently”. Spatz concluded that accidents on a football pitch sometimes happen, but no one could have foreseen such a tragic outcome.

The scheduled Granada‑Tenerife match, which was set for Saturday at 21:00, has been postponed due to the tragic events. A commemoration moment will be scheduled on Thursday in Toledo. All Champions League‑clubs observed a minute’s silence in memory of De Miguel, from Istanbul to Manchester and Barcelona.

The minute’s silence was observed, among others, at Villarreal‑PSG, Atletico‑Bayern, Feyenoord‑Inter, Barcelona‑Aston Villa, Manchester United‑Roma, Galatasaray‑Stuttgart and Shaktar‑Sporting. Fans on Tenerife gathered outside the stadium, laid flowers and gave a solemn applause. Alex Baena appeared in a De Miguel shirt during the top match between Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich.
