Risser’s battle cry fuels Lens’ historic Trophée win over PSG

Under the floodlights of Stade Bollaert in Lens, a sea of red and gold surged as RC LensLens lifted the Trophée des champions, edging Paris Saint‑Germain 1‑0 on Sunday evening. The 21‑year‑old goalkeeper Robin Risser celebrated on the Ligue 1+ microphone, hailing his teammates’ fighting spirit.

Risser’s rallying cry

Risser shouted, “A ten, at nine, at eight… we go to war!” as the Lensois pressed forward. He said the collective “fighting spirit” would be the foundation for the upcoming season, urging his side to maintain the intensity that secured the trophy.

Match drama and red cards

The contest was fierce, with 19 fouls and two red cards handed out. Lens played with ten men for more than 50 minutes after Kyllian Antonio’s dismissal in the 39th minute, while Parisian defender Nuno Mendes was sent off in the 87th minute.

Despite being a man down, the Lensois held firm, absorbing pressure from the Parisien attackers. Their resilience was evident as they withstood a barrage of attempts while defending a narrow lead.

Key moments included an early 8th‑minute attempt by Kvaratskhelia and Akliouche, a close duel at the 62nd minute involving Nuno Mendes, and a 72nd‑minute strike from Dembélé. Robin Risser, the young keeper, repelled six shots throughout the match, keeping his side in the game.

The victory marks the fourth major trophy in the club’s history and the first Trophée des champions title, a milestone not achieved since 2012. The Sang et Or celebrated the achievement as a testament to their combative and hargneux (aggressive) style.

Looking ahead, Lens will open the league campaign on Saturday 22 August at 17:15, hosting Auxerre. The confidence built from the Trophée win is expected to propel the Lensois into the new season.
