Red Devils’ Carrick eyes Newcastle left‑back Lewis Hall to plug gap

🇬🇧 By 4AllFootball Editorial ·

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick is reportedly eager to sign Newcastle United left‑back Lewis Hall before the transfer window shuts. The move is intended to plug a defensive gap as United push for a top‑four finish, and the 21‑year‑old could add depth to the Red Devils’ back line.

The interest was highlighted in a recent report by journalist Graeme Bailey. Bailey said United are eyeing the English talent later this year, underscoring the seriousness of the pursuit.

United’s scouting network has been monitoring Hall’s progress throughout the season. His performances for the Tyneside club have been tracked as part of the club’s Premier League recruitment strategy.

Hall enjoyed an impressive run of form at Newcastle, registering one goal and two assists across 47 appearances in all competitions last season. Those contributions placed him among the most promising left‑backs in the Premier League.

Hall’s contract with Newcastle runs until the summer of 2029. This means United would likely need to meet a substantial fee to secure his services before it expires, reducing the chance of a cut‑price move later on.

Described as a tough‑tackling defender, Hall times his challenges well and often wins the ball back inside his own half. He is also a tidy passer from the left flank, delivering dangerous crosses and showing abundant energy on the wing.

While primarily a left‑back, Hall can also operate as a left‑sided wide player or even as a central midfielder if instructed by his manager. This flexibility adds further appeal for a Manchester United side seeking depth across defensive and midfield lines.

Having already featured regularly in the Premier League, Hall is expected to settle quickly at the Mancunian club. He could improve the quality of Michael Carrick’s defence at Old Trafford.

At 21, he possesses the potential to become a regular first‑team starter. United view him as a future Premier League star for the club.
