Red card and late equaliser deny Bayern victory over Viking in Champions League

Harry Kane’s late penalty equaliser in the 90th minute ensured a 3‑3 draw for Viking against Bayern Munich, denying the German side all three points in a dramatic UEFA Champions League group match on Tuesday.

Viking seize early lead

From the first whistle Viking pressed high, and Zlatko Tripić’s corner was met by Gianni Stensness, who headed past Bayern goalkeeper Jonas Urbig after just two minutes. A second goal followed before half‑time when Erik Botheim’s long ball set up Peter Christiansen, who finished inside the box to make it 2‑0.

Bayern, travelling to Norway after a 5‑0 win over Bodø/Glimt on Matchday one, made six changes under head coach Vincent Kompany, including the introduction of Jonas Urbig, Konrad Laimer, Minjae Kim, Nathaniel Brown, Tom Bischof and Lennart Karl.

Bayern rally before red card

Kane reduced the deficit from the spot in the 54th minute, and six minutes later he headed in Joshua Kimmich’s cross to level the tie at 2‑2. Luis Díaz then restored Bayern’s lead in the 71st minute after a move involving Kane and Laimer.

Michael Olise, who had scored twice and assisted in the previous league game, was shown two yellow cards within minutes – first for a foul and then for throwing the ball at Tripić – and was sent off in the 74th minute.

Viking responded with a triple substitution and, in the final minute, Tripić crossed for substitute Herman Haugen, whose header past Urbig completed the 3‑3 scoreline.

Carina Johansen reported that Kane’s goal marked his ninth successive UEFA Champions League appearance in which he found the net, a personal milestone that nevertheless could not secure a win for Bayern.

With the draw, Bayern host Arsenal in their next Champions League fixture on 21 October, while Viking will look to build on the point earned in Norway.
