Real Madrid lock up Turkish star Arda Guler as Chelsea and Arsenal linger
Real Madrid have completed a new contract for Turkish international Arda Guler, the move confirmed by transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano. The five‑year deal runs until June 2032 and comes after reported interest from both Chelsea and Arsenal. The signing secures the 21‑year‑old attacking midfielder for the Whites.
Contract details confirmed
Romano posted a video on X showing the signed paperwork, stating the agreement is “completed, signed, valid for the next five seasons”. He added that all formal steps have been finalised, meaning Guler will remain at Real Madrid for the foreseeable future.
Guler joined the club from Fenerbahce in 2023 and has already contributed 21 goals in 123 La Liga appearances. The Turkey international has experienced ups and downs but has grown into a key player for Los Blancos, and the club appear delighted to retain him amid external interest.
Premier League interest
Earlier this year, Romano’s outlet revealed that Arsenal had sounded out Guler as a potential long‑term replacement for Martin Odegaard. A separate claim from the Spanish site Fichajes suggested Chelsea could launch an ambitious move for him in January.
Arsenal saw the midfielder as a creative option to bolster their midfield, while Chelsea’s project, built around top young talents, would have welcomed his skill set. Both clubs viewed him as a fine signing for the Premier League.
Implications of the new deal
By securing Guler on a long‑term contract, Real Madrid have effectively blocked a likely transfer to England. The club’s statement that he is “staying at Real Madrid, continuing at the club” underscores their intent to keep him central to future plans.
With the contract now sealed, the prospect of Guler moving to London appears considerably less likely, leaving Chelsea and Arsenal to pursue alternative targets.
