Barcelona target Rotterdam for multifunctional defender Mármol
FC Barcelona has, according to Spanish media, shown interest in the 24‑year‑old left‑footed central defender Mika Mármol of Feyenoord, with rumours about a possible transfer fee of fifteen to twenty million euros circulating. The Catalan club would like to fly to Rotterdam already in January.
Barcelona's interest and the possible price
Barcelona's interest is not random; Mármol was part of the club's youth academy between 2018 and 2022, where he played in the Under‑18, Under‑19 and Barcelona B teams. After a free departure to FC Andorra he was signed by Las Palmas in the summer for €1.9 million, after which he joined Feyenoord on a free transfer in July. His versatility, which is used both as a left‑back and in the centre of defence, fits the Catalan club's requirements.
"I became convinced of the overall picture that was presented to me by Feyenoord. I quickly got the best feeling about Feyenoord and now that everything is final, I can’t wait to play in this shirt," said Mika Mármol. He added that he will do everything to succeed and that he is already looking forward to his first minutes in De Kuip.
Coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst has always reserved a place for the stopper, which means Mármol regularly starts both as a left‑back and as a central defender. The Rotterdam side value his multifunctional qualities and see him as a key player in their defensive setup.
Implications for Feyenoord and Mármol
Feyenoord has Mármol tied until mid‑2030, a contract that the Catalan club must overcome to be able to sign the defender. The Rotterdam side are also embroiled in the battle for the Eredivisie title and a possible next round in Europe, which means they are reluctant to part with their star player.
A transfer fee of fifteen to twenty million euros is mentioned, while Mármol's market value is estimated at fifteen million euros. Technical director Dévy Rigaux, the Belgian, must be convinced that this amount is sufficient, given the long contract length and Feyenoord's sporting ambitions.
For Mármol, a potential move to Barcelona would mean a return to the club where he spent his youth, but the current situation in Rotterdam gives him a solid base until 2030. A final decision will depend on the negotiations between the two clubs and Rigaux's willingness to make the deal happen.
