Raya’s clean‑sheet record fuels Arsenal worries over LaLiga lure

David Raya’s 72 clean sheets from 176 Premier League games have made him a cornerstone of Arsenal, yet his recent comments about a possible LaLiga move have set alarm bells ringing among Gunners supporters. The 31‑year‑old goalkeeper, a three‑time Golden Glove winner, remains happy at the club but admits his heart lies in Spain.

Career journey to Arsenal

Born in Barcelona, Raya began at local side Cornella before moving to England at 16 to join Blackburn Rovers. He made almost 100 first‑team appearances across the Championship and League One, earning a transfer to Brentford in 2019.

Raya helped Brentford secure their first‑ever promotion to the Premier League two years later and featured in two top‑flight campaigns before switching across the capital to Arsenal in 2023.

Arsenal’s season and future outlook

Since arriving, Raya has become one of the world’s best keepers, the third ever to win three successive Premier League Golden Glove awards. He recorded 19 shutouts as Arsenal clinched the title last term and has kept 72 clean sheets in 176 league outings, conceding barely 0.7 goals per game.

His performances also propelled Arsenal to the Champions League final last season, a feat highlighted in a Getty photograph of the keeper in action.

Speaking to, the Spain international and 2026 World Cup winner said, “I would love to play in LaLiga one day.” He added that, while “very happy at Arsenal,” the competitive Spanish league and his national identity make a return “obvious”.

Arsenal have continued a strong start to their title defence, winning six of their opening seven Premier League matches and sitting three points behind early leaders Manchester City. In Europe they drew 2‑2 away to Bayern Munich, moving to seven points from three Champions League games, and face Everton at home on Sunday before a league trip to Liverpool.

Raya’s expressed desire to return to Spain has set off alarm bells among Arsenal supporters, highlighting the broader market tension where top clubs must balance player ambition with squad stability.
