Rashford’s £325k week tests United’s wage ceiling amid spending
[Getty Images] Marcus Rashford remains under contract with Manchester United until 2028, earning a weekly £325,000, making him the club’s highest‑paid player. The wage sits at a time when minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is keen to curb United’s wage bill. United’s wage bill remains the club’s biggest expense by a wide margin.
Rashford’s ability to operate on the left flank or as a central striker means his continued presence will shape United’s search for a left‑sided attacking player or an additional forward. If he stays, the club can address both roles with a single player.
The wage bill will also be affected by Rashford’s salary. Should his £325,000‑a‑week earnings be counted within the overall payroll, the amount United can allocate to new signings will be reduced.
United’s transfer activity has slowed since Belgium midfielder Youri Tielemans arrived for £35 million on 14 July. The signing marked a significant outlay for the club and has coincided with a more cautious approach in the market. The deal was announced as part of Man Utd’s summer activity.
Supporters are divided over the forward’s future, with some pointing to a reported fallout with Ruben Amorim in training and others comparing his current form with earlier spells at Aston Villa, England and Barcelona.
Rashford’s high wage therefore tests United’s financial ceiling while his versatility offers the club flexibility; for the player, the contract extension secures his stay at Old Trafford but also places his future under scrutiny as the club balances payroll and future signings.
