Rangers chase Troyes defender Sankhoun Diawara as Basel joins race
In Glasgow, Rangers' scouting team has set its sights on 20‑year‑old ESTAC Troyes centre‑back Sankhoun Diawara, a France youth international whose contract runs to 2027, while Swiss side FC Basel also intensifies its pursuit of the defender. Diawara, who made 17 senior appearances last season, is viewed as a prime target for the Scottish club.
Foot Mercato Rangers are closely monitoring Diawara, but they will have to contend with FC Basel, which has placed the French youth international high on its shortlist. Basel, according to the same report, has already made significant progress in its pursuit.
Troyes, having secured promotion back to Ligue 1 for the 2025/26 season, still hope to keep hold of the defender despite external interest. Diawara has been with the club since he was 14.
His current deal runs until 2027, but he has indicated no intention of extending it. Consequently, he is likely to miss the club’s top‑flight campaign.
Last season, Diawara featured in 17 matches across all competitions for the senior team. He found the net once in the Coupe de France and provided an assist in the league.
