Rain‑soaked showdown sees Heerenveen edge ADO Den Haag to a 3-2 win

At the fringe of The Hague, a gale and relentless rain turned the pitch into a slippery battlefield as SC Heerenveen (HEE) and ADO Den Haag clashed in a thrilling Eredivisie encounter that finished 3-2 in favour of the visitors.
Both sides entered the match with contrasting fortunes. Heerenveen had rolled past Excelsior 4-1 a week earlier and sat eighth in the VriendenLoterij Eredivisie, while ADO lingered in seventeenth place. The weather amplified the intensity from the first whistle, with both teams pressing high and the ball bouncing erratically under the driving wind.
Heerenveen strike early
Jacob Trenskow opened the scoring in the 24th minute, finding the net to give Heerenveen a 0-1 lead. The goal came shortly after Matej Sin missed a clear chance for the home side, leaving ADO vulnerable at the back.
Ringo Meerveld doubled the lead in the 51st minute, lofting a powerful shot high into the net. Juho Kilo was visibly frustrated by the strike, a sentiment captured in the caption “Juho Kilo baalt van de treffer van Ringo Meerveld.” The goal left the score at 0-2 and heightened the pressure on ADO.
ADO's fightback and final minutes
Substitute Nigel Thomas, returning from a shoulder injury, made an immediate impact by scoring with his first touch in the 57th minute, restoring parity at 1-2. His quick reaction revived ADO’s hopes and set the tone for a frantic second half.
Heerenveen responded swiftly when a defensive lapse by Jonas Jensen‑Abbew allowed Trenskow to strike again in the 66th minute, extending the lead to 1-3. The Danish forward capitalised on a loose ball and sent the home crowd into disbelief.
Thomas struck once more in the 72nd minute, pulling ADO level at 2-3 after a deft half‑volley. The equaliser reignited the contest, and ADO pressed for a winner in the closing stages.
Late chances fell to both sides, with Mark Farji missing a potential 2-4 winner for Heerenveen after a slip by Pascal Mulder. The match ended 3-2, leaving Heerenveen climbing to seventh place while ADO remained seventeenth. © Pro Shots / Vincent de Vries
