Netherlands' foreign balance: German clubs benefit, Seedorf debuts in Brazil

In the bustling Signal Iduna Park, Joey Veerman, the 27‑year‑old Dutch midfielder of Borussia Dortmund, shone for the full ninety minutes in the 1‑0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, while on the other side of the world Clarence Seedorf saw his first match as coach of Corinthians end in a loss to Vasco da Gama.

German Bundesliga: Veerman and other Dutch

Veerman, who excelled as a deep‑lying playmaker with his passing and interceptions, received praise from the German media. His effort helped Dortmund to, after seven matchdays, still share first place with Bayern Munich, both on seventeen points. The 27‑year‑old Dutchman played the full ninety minutes and was one of the absolute stand‑outs on Dortmund's side.

Wouter Burger and Mats Rots were also crucial in Hoffenheim's 3‑0 home win over Bayer Leverkusen. Burger won the ball in midfield, provided a near‑assist in the 38th minute and was substituted in the 72nd minute. Rots played the full ninety minutes and received a solid rating from the German press. For Leverkusen it was a less pleasant weekend; goalkeeper Mark Flekken had to fish three times.

Italian Serie A: Taylor, Fitz‑Jim and more

In Serie A, Kenneth Taylor, the 24‑year‑old former Ajax player, delivered a crucial 2‑1 victory for Lazio over Parma. After a ball‑passion from an opponent he ran to the edge of the sixteen‑meter area and struck hard off the ground in the left corner, putting Lazio 1‑0 up and scoring his first goal of the season. Tijani Noslin also started in the lineup as a striker and played the full ninety minutes.

Kian Fitz‑Jim opened the scoring for Torino against AC Monza, his first goal in the shirt of Il Toro. After two league duels on the bench he got the chance in the starting eleven and netted the opener. Torino won 3‑2 and sits in eighth place in Serie A after eight matchdays.

Global adventures: Reis, Seedorf and Gouweleeuw

Ludovit Reis decided the 1‑3 victory of Werder Bremen over FSV Mainz 05 in the 61st minute with a shot from the edge of the sixteen‑meter area. For Bremen two penalties had already given a lead and Mainz had scored via Sheraldo Becker. Ajax loan‑player Youri Regeer played the full ninety minutes for Bremen.

Clarence Seedorf saw his first match as coach of Corinthians end in a 3‑2 defeat to Vasco da Gama, without Memphis Depay and Zakaria Labyad due to injuries. The last league win for Corinthians dates from 9 August; the team currently sits in seventeenth place in the Brazilian Série A and could still be overtaken on Monday evening by Grêmio. To avoid relegation the club still has to win six matches against the top sixteen teams.

Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, with 275 Bundesliga appearances, holds the record for the most matches at the highest level in Augsburg's shirt. Since January 2016 he has been under contract with the club and recently featured in a 1‑1 draw against Union Berlin. “This was an important personal goal for me. Nowadays only a few players manage to stay at a club for so long,” said the Dutchman.
