Rafa Marín at the centre of the debate: Villarreal ready to bring him back to Napoli

Rafa Marín, Spanish defender born in 2002, is at the centre of a new chapter of negotiations: Villarreal, led by Iñigo Pérez, has presented the team against Napoli, while the Neapolitan club retains buy-back clauses of €25 million for 2026 and €35 million for the summer of 2027.

Marín's role at Napoli and the return to Villarreal

Marín played a prominent role in Antonio Conte's Napoli this season, tallying six appearances and only a few minutes on the pitch. The summer of 2024 saw him move to Villarreal to regain continuity, a goal achieved with 31 final appearances in the last Spanish season.

The defender said: “Having finished my experience at Villarreal, which was very positive, I immediately thought about returning to Napoli because I believe it is a huge club. My intention is to spend as many years as possible here.”

The buy-back clauses and future prospects

According to the agreements made in 2024 between Napoli and Florentino Pérez's Real Madrid, the Neapolitan club retains two buy-back clauses: €25 million for 2026 and €35 million for the summer of 2027. The €35 million figure is considered reasonable, dependent on Marín's season and his performances in the Champions League.

Villarreal, coached last year by Marcelino, is now led by the young Iñigo Pérez. The defensive centre commented: “We expect a very strong team. They have very quick players, both in attack and defence, and we must be very careful both in the preventive phases and in finishing the plays well.”

Pérez also highlighted the club’s growth: “Many consider their qualification for the Champions League a miracle, but in reality the team has played excellent football for two consecutive years, with very good and competent players who deserve to be at the top of the table.”

Napoli, under the direction of Aurelio De Laurentiis, inserted the buy-back clauses into the agreement, keeping alive the possibility of bringing Marín back to Spain next summer.
