PSV secure free‑transfer Serbian defender Kostic on two‑year deal

PSV have completed the signing of 33‑year‑old left‑back Filip Kostic on a free transfer, agreeing a two‑year contract that will see him based in Eindhoven. The Serbian defender arrives after terminating his contract with Juventus earlier this summer.

Kostic left Juventus as a free agent this summer and immediately committed to PSV for the next two seasons. The move marks his return to Dutch football after a varied career across Europe.

Earlier in his career the Serbian played as a winger for FC Groningen, where he first made his mark in the Eredivisie. In recent years he has been deployed more as a wing‑defender, reflecting his evolution on the pitch.

Kostic’s résumé also includes spells at VfB Stuttgart, Eintracht Frankfurt and Turkish side Fenerbahçe. His experience spans Germany’s Bundesliga and Turkey’s Süper Lig, adding depth to PSV’s defensive options.

While at Frankfurt, Kostic was part of the squad that lifted the UEFA Europa League, securing continental silverware for the German club. That triumph highlights his pedigree in European competition.

Internationally, Kostic has represented Serbia at the 2018 and 2022 World Cups and at the 2024 European Championship. His participation in those tournaments underscores his status as a seasoned international.

The player is currently awaiting the issuance of his work permit before he can be officially registered for competitive matches. PSV expect the paperwork to be resolved shortly.

"When PSV approached me, I immediately knew I wanted to come to Eindhoven," Kostic said in a PSV press release. The Serbian expressed enthusiasm about joining the Dutch side and contributing to its ambitions.

Ivan Perisic played a key role in accelerating the transfer, repeatedly urging Kostic to sign. "He kept saying, ‘Come here, you’ll love it, and together we’ll make life difficult for every opponent.’ I’m thrilled we now have this chance and I’m extremely hungry for success with this top club," Perisic added.
