PSV leads as Ajax struggles in the European ranking
While PSV sits at 22nd place in the UEFA club coefficient ranking, Ajax struggles at 59th spot. Both clubs are part of the Dutch top, but their European performances differ markedly. Feyenoord and AZ are also positioned at 35th and 40th place respectively.
The performances of Dutch clubs in Europe are not only important for the UEFA coefficient list; the clubs themselves build a European ranking that influences the draws and provides a current picture of their continental success. Without a strong ranking, clubs can receive less favorable opponents and miss out on potential revenue.
PSV leads the Dutch clubs
PSV, as the highest Dutch club, sits at 22nd place in the UEFA club coefficient ranking. Thanks to annual points in the Champions League, the Eindhoven-based club has established itself in the top 25.
This position determines which pot the club is placed in for European draws and gives PSV a chance to qualify for the 2029 Club World Cup tournament, provided the flow of points continues. This allows the club to measure itself against world‑top clubs and benefit financially.
Feyenoord, AZ and Ajax: divergent paths
Feyenoord sits at 35th place, just below Juventus and just above Ferencvaros. The club's results vary; several winter stays in Europe were interspersed with disappointments, partly due to fielding a B‑team in the Europa League last season.
AZ surprised positively and sits at 40th place thanks to strong campaigns in the Conference and Europa League. The Alkmaar side have beaten clubs such as Real Sociedad, Galatasaray, Lyon, Marseille, Monaco, Celtic and Rangers, which has lifted them higher on the ranking.
Ajax is positioned between Qarabag and Slovan Bratislava at 59th place, far behind AZ. The ranking is based on the past five years, so the glory years of the Amsterdam club do not count. The team can reach the latter stages via the Conference League this season to get closer again to the other Dutch clubs.
