PSV can demand record fee for Ruben van Bommel, winter move to Roma looms
Ruben van Bommel has made an impression in a short time at PSV and with the Dutch national team, while AS Roma is already considering a possible winter transfer and even a sum of €80 million is being mentioned. The young left winger, born on 3 August 2004 in Meerssen, is now at the centre of the European transfer market.
Impressions at PSV and the Dutch national team
The 1.92 metre tall right‑footed striker has shown strong performances in Eindhoven and delivered a calling card for the Dutch national team during the international break. His development was underscored by a contract with PSV that runs until 30 June 2030, according to Transfermarkt. Ahead of the summer of 2025, PSV paid roughly €15.8 million to bring him in from AZ.
Roma’s winter outlook and valuations
Italian media, including, reported early interest from AS Roma. The radio station Manà Sport Roma linked the Dutchman with a possible transfer in January. Coach Gasperini is looking for a left winger who combines speed, technique and depth – a profile that fits Van Bommel perfectly. Italian reports spoke of an estimated value of around €25 million, while Transfermarkt placed his market value at €18 million.
Journalist Mike Verweij, in the Kick‑off podcast, saw a record sale for PSV and said: “That will go for €80 million, I think.” He added that a sum of €60 million, in his view, would not be enough.

Record potential and contract details
A transfer fee of €80 million would place Van Bommel in the category of the biggest outgoing transfers from PSV. However, the club still needs to find a concrete agreement; a winter transfer remains speculative for now without official negotiations or a confirmed asking price. The competition among interested clubs, the contractual situation and his recent recovery from a serious knee injury play a crucial role.
Van Bommel comes from a well‑known football family: his father is Mark van Bommel, former international and midfielder at, among others, PSV, Bayern Munich and AC Milan, and his grandfather is Bert van Marwijk, who led the Dutch national team to the 2010 World Cup final. He started at SV Meerssen, continued at MVV Maastricht, moved to AZ in 2022 and broke through in the 2023‑2024 season. In the following season he played for Jong AZ before returning to PSV in July 2025.
His speed, physical strength and ability to cut inside make him an attractive option for clubs looking to bolster their attack. Without official negotiations the exact asking price remains unclear, but the rumours and the mentioned €80 million underline the high expectations surrounding the young talented striker.
