Ruben van Bommel draws winter interest from AS Roma
Ruben van Bommel is making an impression at PSV this season and has recently also proven himself during the international break of the Dutch national team, prompting the Italian club AS Roma to already show interest for the upcoming winter in a possible transfer from Eindhoven.
Statistics and market value
In seven internationals for PSV, Ruben van Bommel has scored two goals and provided four assists. InfoRoma24 estimates his market value at €25 million, but PSV is presumably thinking of an amount that is double that.
Roma rumors via Sport
The Roman radio station Manà Manà Sport reports that AS Roma is interested in the PSV wing‑forward and suggests that he could leave Eindhoven this winter. Earlier it reported a possible link between the club and the newly‑capped Dutch international. Coach Gian Piero Gasperini would place Van Bommel high on his list to add more attacking impetus to his squad.
Mike Verweij, who writes for …, believes that Van Bommel will fetch a record sum and calls a figure of sixty million euros too low. “He will go for €80 million, I think.” Verweij said, “I think he has more potential than Gakpo and I believe he will become even better.” René van der Gijp said that the Premier League also has interest. “Sure. He could become better than Cody Gakpo. And they were willing to give another hundred million euros for him…”, said the former professional.
Despite the rumors, the chance seems small that PSV will actually cooperate in a transfer, because the club has not yet received any concrete offers. Nevertheless, AS Roma could still make a bid during the winter period.
The combination of the strong statistics of Van Bommel, his growing reputation abroad and the divergent valuations makes the winter market for the 23‑year‑old player particularly exciting. For now the final destination remains unclear, but the interest from Italy and England continues.
