PSG set Champions League record as Villarreal crumble in Paris

On Tuesday evening Paris Saint‑Germain travelled to the Estadio de la Cerámica for a Champions League group match against Villarreal. The French side scored four goals in the opening 16 MINUTES and two seconds, setting a Champions League record for the fastest quartet of goals.

Record‑breaking start

The Spanish side Villarreal could not stop the onslaught and eventually fell 6‑0. Joao Neves opened the scoring nine minutes in, before Desire Doue and Senny Mayulu capitalised on Peter Gulacsi’s errors to make it 3‑0. Fabian Ruiz added his first of two goals in the 17 MINUTES, cementing the record and putting the game beyond doubt.

Ruiz struck again in the 50 MINUTES to make it five, and Neves set up 17‑year‑old David Boly for his first European goal in the 78 MINUTES, completing the 6‑0 tally. PSG did not take their foot off the brake, continuing to press throughout the match.

Villarreal’s woes

The starting line‑up featured Canadian winger Tajon Buchanan, who played the full 90 minutes and created a couple of scoring chances. Hungarian goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi faced 12 shots on target, and his mistakes contributed to the early goals. Substitute Tani Oluwaseyi entered in the second half but failed to score, extending his goalless run in the competition.

Canadian midfielder Nathan Saliba, returning from a muscle injury, was omitted from the matchday squad despite coach Iñigo Pérez’s pre‑match comments that he was fit to play. PSG remain one of four teams with a perfect record, sitting 4‑0‑0, while Real Betis, Liverpool and Real Madrid are 3‑0‑0.

Barcelona’s 4‑0 win over Aston Villa on Tuesday left Villa with a loss, confirming Villa’s presence in the group. After the defeat, Villarreal will look to rebound on Sunday at home against Getafe. Under Spanish manager Luis Enrique, PSG have won back‑to‑back Champions League titles and five consecutive Ligue 1 crowns, underscoring their dominance in Europe.
