PSG's Champions League triumph costs them Kvaratskhelia and two more

Paris Saint‑Germain beat Barcelona 4‑2 at the Parc des Princes to remain unbeaten in the Champions League, but the win was marred by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia tearing his ACL and Ousmane Dembele and Marquinhos also leaving the pitch injured.

The match was level at 2‑2 with ten minutes remaining before PSG struck twice late to seal the 4‑2 victory and keep their Champions League defence intact, marking three wins from three.

Kvaratskhelia's ACL rupture

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia went down early in the second half after a challenge with Barcelona’s Xavi Espart, unable to put weight on his right knee and was helped off. The club confirmed a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and said he will undergo surgery in the coming days, without giving a timetable for his return.

The 25‑year‑old was making his first start of the season in the Champions League and has featured 11 times for PSG this campaign. He posted on social media, “Why me? I was not ready for this,” promising to come back stronger for the fans.

Further injuries and squad strain

Ousmane Dembele suffered a left‑thigh injury and Marquinhos a right‑thigh injury, with both players expected to remain under treatment for the next few weeks and miss the Ligue 1 clash with Lyon on 25 October.

Defender Nuno Mendes also endured a left‑thigh injury against Strasbourg on 17 October and is ruled out for the upcoming trip to Lyon, adding to the growing list of absentees.

With Kvaratskhelia, Dembele, Marquinhos and Mendes unavailable, PSG will have to rotate heavily across defence and attack in the coming fixtures.
