PSG break Champions League record as Fabián Ruiz dazzles Villarreal

Fabián Ruiz scored twice as Paris Saint-Germain overwhelmed Villarreal in a record‑quick Champions League start. The match took place at the Estadio de la Cerámica on Tuesday 3 November 2026. Paris Saint-Germain led 4‑0 at half‑time in round four of the Champions League league stage.
Record‑breaking first half
Paris Saint-Germain scored four goals faster than any side in Champions League history on their way to a six‑goal victory at La Cerámica. João Neves opened the scoring in the ninth minute. Désiré Doué added a second three minutes later from a Maghnes Akliouche pass. Senny Mayulu struck in the 13th minute. Fabián Ruiz then converted another Akliouche assist.
The four goals arrived within 16 minutes and two seconds, setting a Champions League record. No team had ever scored four times faster in the competition. By half‑time Paris Saint-Germain had eight shots on target to Villarreal’s one. Ruiz added his second goal in the 50th minute, set up by Vitinha. Flashscore noted it was only the second occasion he had scored twice for Paris Saint-Germain. He finished the match with a rating of 9.81.

Aftermath and future fixtures
Luis Enrique managed the side without four regulars: Kvaratskhelia, Dembélé, Nuno Mendes and Marquinhos, all absent through injury. The win marked Paris Saint-Germain’s tenth consecutive victory. It also took them to fourteen unbeaten European Cup matches, equalling the longest run by a French club. After four matchdays they were the sole club on twelve points in the league phase.
The defeat leaves Iñigo Pérez taking the blame and Villarreal with only one win from four league‑phase games. Iñigo Pérez left Alberto Moleiro and Georges Mikautadze on the bench. He chose a less attacking line‑up than usual. By the sixth goal the stadium was half empty. The remaining fans whistled the home side again.
Pérez blamed himself for the biggest mistakes. He said his side had got their idea of how to play Paris Saint-Germain wrong. He added they had the wrong mindset after conceding. Pérez also defended Carlos Macià, who had just turned eighteen and faced Vitinha. He put the youngster’s struggles down to his own tactical plan.
PSG's blistering start at Villarreal sets Champions League tone
At his press conference he would not discuss his own future. He said the squad was devastated and needed to focus on finding solutions. Villarreal’s European campaign has stalled. They lost 3‑2 at Borussia Dortmund on 8 September. A 3‑1 home win over Napoli followed on 13 October. They then lost 4‑3 at Liverpool on 20 October. Domestically their previous outing was a 1‑0 defeat by Espanyol. Spain’s other clubs had contrasting nights. Barcelona beat Aston Villa 3‑0 at home. Atlético de Madrid lost 2‑0 at home to Bayern München. Villarreal return to LaLiga at home to Getafe on Sunday 8 November. Their next Champions League match is away to Slavia Praha on Wednesday 25 November.
