Prime Video pays £10m for Manchester City Pep Guardiola docuseries

Prime Video has secured a multi‑million pound deal to broadcast a four‑part docuseries on Pep Guardiola’s final two seasons at Manchester City. The streaming giant paid upwards of £10 million for the footage, a figure that dwarfs a previous deal with Netflix.

The series is directed by Academy Award winner Kevin Macdonald together with City Studios’ John De Caux and produced by Plan B/KM Films. It follows the squad through a domestic cup double in 2026 and the emotional departures of club legends.

Kevin De Bruyne left the club in 2025, and the series also captures the final farewells of John Stones and Bernardo Silva. It documents a disappointing 2024/25 campaign before the team clinched both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup in Guardiola’s swansong.

Media Director Gavin Johnson of City Football Group said the documentary offers new insight and surpasses the scale of previous club documentaries. He praised the collaboration with Kevin Macdonald and Plan B/KM Films and highlighted the role of City Studios’ embedded crew.

Jack Gaughan reported the fee exceeds £10 million, eclipsing the seven‑figure sum Netflix paid for the series documenting the 2023 Treble season. The size of the deal reflects a big‑money bet on the manager’s legacy.

The series is slated for release on August 19, coinciding with the start of Enzo Maresca’s era as Manchester City manager. The Premier League season is set to begin the weekend of August 22.

The documentary aims to give fans closure after a decade of unprecedented dominance. It also serves as a commercial asset to bolster City Studios’ brand as a world‑leader in sports media production.
