Pressure mounts on PSV trainer Peter Bosz after crushing AZ defeat

PSV trainer Peter Bosz faces mounting internal pressure after his side suffered a 0-4 defeat to AZ in the Johan Cruijff Shield, sport marketer Chris Woerts says. The loss, which came on Sunday, has intensified scrutiny of Bosz’s fourth year in charge.

Sport marketer Chris Woerts told Nieuws van de Dag: “I think Bosz actually should have become the new national coach. He is now basically chasing facts. After yesterday’s Sunday defeat, Peter Bosz is also under internal pressure at PSV. He will never finish the season if he continues to perform so badly.”

Guest Bram Moszkowicz, appearing as a tafelgast, reacted sharply: “That is just one match, you can’t judge him on that?” He expressed surprise at Woerts’ harsh assessment.

Woerts replied that the issue goes beyond a single result, adding: “I think it’s more about the mentality and the composition of the group. He is entering his fourth year, which is very long for a coach. Usually the effect fades after two or three years.”

He also noted his personal connection, saying: “I know Peter very well, I worked with him at Feyenoord. Nice guy, a very good analyst. But: too long at PSV.”

Bosz defended his approach after the 0-4 loss, stating: “We did not see a normal match. In the first half we stood well in a low block, something we never usually play. I saw it as a great training and a good test of fitness.”

He added that the team held together despite being a man down, praising the players for helping each other on the field and for the educational value of the low‑block exercise.
