Premier League interest narrows as Noah Atubolu's exit looms

24‑year‑old goalkeeper Noah Atubolu is set to leave SC Freiburg for a Premier League club, Sport reports, after missing the German side’s pre‑season training camp while the transfer window draws nearer, underscoring his imminent departure from the Bundesliga and his focus now appears fixed on securing a contract in England.

Atubolu has repeatedly turned down interest from Juventus and from Premier League newcomers Hull City AFC and Coventry City FC, indicating his determination to join an established English side rather than return to Italy.

The 24‑year‑old has been linked with a move to England for months, and his focus now appears fixed on securing a Premier League contract.

The remaining candidates are Aston Villa, who have already signed Atubolu’s Freiburg teammate Johan Manzambi, and Bournemouth, currently coached by German manager Marco Rose, both representing the established English options Atubolu is targeting.

Freiburg acted swiftly after the 2025/26 Bundesliga concluded, procuring a replacement for their soon‑to‑depart goalkeeper, Werder Bremen’s Mio Backhaus, highlighting the club’s preparation for Atubolu’s exit.

Atubolu’s move will see him fulfil his aim of playing in England, while Freiburg will rely on their new signing to fill the gap left by his departure.
