Premier League ambition drives QPR to lock in Stephan

Queens Park Rangers have secured a new deal for 45‑year‑old head coach Julien Stephan, confirming his stay at Loftus Road after first joining the West London club in June 2025. The club announced the fresh contract without revealing any financial terms.

The club valued Stephan’s French experience, noting his previous spells at Rennes and Strasbourg gave him a tactical outlook suited to the Championship. This French background was highlighted as a key factor in the decision to retain him.

Stephan’s reputation for injecting positivity and attacking intent aligned with QPR’s ambition to revive vibrant football at Loftus Road. Management believes his style matches the club’s desire for more attacking play.

In his inaugural season, Stephan guided QPR to a 15th‑place finish, ending 11 points clear of the relegation zone. After a 7‑1 loss to eventual champions Coventry City in his third league match, he steadied the ship and lifted the side toward the play‑off places by mid‑season.

The second half of the campaign proved challenging, with four straight defeats between February and mid‑March, followed by another quartet of losses to close the season. Consequently, QPR finished 15 points behind sixth‑placed Hull City, who secured promotion to the Premier League via the play‑offs.

"I just want to thank the owners and thank Christian Nourry for the confidence – I am very happy to continue this journey with the club," Stephan told the R’s website. "We know exactly that the objective of the club in the mid to long term is to reach the play‑offs – and more than that, to play in the Premier League," he added.

Chief executive Christian Nourry praised Stephan, saying, "Julien has brought positivity, energy and has begun to return the club to an era of more vibrant, attacking football. From a human perspective, I cannot speak highly enough of the integrity of the person and the coach."

The new contract confirms Stephan will continue to lead the side as QPR builds toward promotion ambitions. The announcement, released with Images, confirmed the terms remain undisclosed.
