Why David Trezeguet missed Robert Pirès's jubilee in Metz
On Tuesday evening in Metz, the veterans of France 1998 gathered for the jubilee organized by Robert Pirès. The former striker David Trezeguet was however absent, occupied in Argentina.
A constellation of champions in Metz
Robert Pirès brought together a large portion of the 1998 World Cup champions, including Laurent Blanc, Marcel Desailly, Lilian Thuram, Bixente Lizarazu, Christian Karembeu, Frank Leboeuf, Youri Djorkaeff and Patrick Vieira, to celebrate the historic victory. The presence of these iconic figures highlighted the camaraderie born from France's first star.
The gathering also welcomed numerous legends from FC Metz and Arsenal, reinforcing the festive character of the evening. The participants shared memories and anecdotes about their exploits.
The two major absentees were Zinedine Zidane, very busy, and Didier Deschamps, who seems less close to the group now, while David Trezeguet was also missing. This absence was noted by the guests present.
David Trezeguet, far from the festivities, in Buenos Aires
David Trezeguet was filmed in the stands of the Monumental stadium in Argentina during Lionel Messi's latest match with the Albiceleste against Benin, a match that ended in a 3-0 victory. This historic moment of Argentine football was the backdrop of his presence.
In the footage, he was holding one of his children in his arms, probably from his relationship with Argentine translator Belen Cosimo. The gesture hinted at a personal motivation.
After a stint in Turin, the Franco‑Argentinian 48-year-old now lives in the Buenos Aires area and works again with River Plate, the club where he played from 2012 to 2014. His role is part of the club's international development.
According to La Nación, he holds the position of international ambassador, responsible for River Plate's international development and participates in meetings related to the 2030 World Cup. He explained that President Stefano Di Carlo asked him to create and support a process aimed at increasing the club's international profile through the brand and the youth training programme, adding that the biggest international brands are beginning to contact them.
