Portugal's federation bans Ronaldo pending discipline after Copenhagen
On Saturday the Federação Portuguesa de Futebol (FPF) imposed a preventive suspension on Cristiano Ronaldo after opening a disciplinary process because the striker left the national team concentration. The move comes as the Portuguese side prepares for its next Nations League fixture.
Disciplinary procedure escalates
The FPF sent the case to the Comissão de Instrução Disciplinar with urgent character, but a final sanction has not yet been defined. Ronaldo remains unavailable for selection until the process concludes.
The incident dates back to 30 September, when the number 7 walked out of Portugal’s camp in Copenhague, Dinamarca, on the eve of a Liga das Nações match. His departure occurred after a dispute with coach Jorge Jesus over his involvement in the game against Norway.
Ronaldo had warmed up for part of the second half but was not brought on, prompting a disagreement with the manager. The clash escalated and the striker left the squad premises.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Cristiano Ronaldo acknowledged that he should not have abandoned the group and apologised to teammates and supporters. He stressed that, as captain, his actions carry an aggravating factor.
The forward explained that the dispute stemmed from a plan for him to play roughly 30 minutes against Norway, a substitution that never materialised. He accepted full responsibility for leaving the camp.
While awaiting further disciplinary developments, Ronaldo returned to Al‑Nassr on Friday, scoring in a 3‑0 Saudi Pro League victory over Diriyah and reaching 980 career goals. The performance demonstrated his continued form at club level.
In the same communiqué, the Portuguese striker affirmed his intention to remain available for the national side after any imposed sanction and reiterated his aim to keep competing for Portugal.
