Portugal eye Ronaldo’s November return despite suspension

Cristiano Ronaldo may rejoin Portugal’s national side in November despite a preventive suspension imposed after he left the team’s Copenhagen training camp, the Portuguese Football Federation said on Tuesday. The governing body indicated a willingness to have the 41‑year‑old striker back for the upcoming FIFA international window, pending the outcome of disciplinary proceedings.

The controversy erupted on 30 September when Ronaldo walked out of the Portugal camp in Copenhagen before the match against Denmark. The departure followed his being left on the bench by coach Jorge Jesus in the Norway game and being told he would not start the next fixture. The incident prompted the federation’s disciplinary council to open a case and hand him a preventive ban while the matter is examined.

Disciplinary process and federation stance

The disciplinary council imposed a preventive suspension, noting that a final sanction has yet to be determined. Pedro Proença, president of the Federación Portuguesa de Futbol, said: “manifestó su deseo de recuperar al capitán para la próxima Fecha FIFA”. He added that the federation, technical staff and teammates all want the striker’s return.

Proença also declared, “existe una voluntad conjunta de recuperar al delantero para los próximos compromisos internacionales”, underscoring a collective desire to have Ronaldo available for November fixtures.

November international window

Portugal’s November programme includes hosting Denmark on the 14th and travelling to Wales on the 17th to close the UEFA Nations League group stage. Ronaldo’s participation remains uncertain until the disciplinary file is resolved, but the federation hopes he can don the shirt for those matches.

Ronaldo’s earlier goal celebration was ruled out by VAR, a reminder of the scrutiny he faces on the pitch. The story was listed as a preferred source on Google, highlighting the widespread interest in whether the veteran forward will feature again for the Selección.
