Philippe Albert says Giulian Biancone is Anderlecht's defence leader

Under the bright lights of the Jagiellonia Bialystok stadium in Poland, the Mauves stormed to a 0‑3 triumph, their first Europa League win of the season. Beside commentator Frank Peterkenne, former defender Philippe Albert praised the performance, noting a new defensive leader.

Biancone revitalises Anderlecht defence

Albert lauded the return of Giulian Biancone, describing him as “the leader of this defence and even of this team”. He added that Biancone’s ability to break lines and create overloads in midfield had been missing in recent weeks. “I found him just and very present,” Albert said, highlighting the Frenchman’s impact after a period of absence.

The former defender also stressed that Biancone’s inclusion in the starting eleven had done “a lot of good for Anderlecht”. Albert’s praise came as the player delivered a “beautiful performance”, helping the side dominate the match.

Victory fuels hopes ahead of KAA Gent clash

Albert believes KAA Gent is well within reach for the Mauves, stating that the upcoming Sunday fixture could be a “boost for the coming weeks”. He noted that Anderlecht showed “a completely different face” compared with earlier European outings, reacting strongly when needed.

Les Mauves took advantage early, with a first‑half that Albert described as “fairly complete”. He claimed the opponent “practically did not exist” and that Anderlecht capitalised on a defensive error caused by their own pressing.

Jagiellonia attempted a comeback after the break, but Anderlecht resisted several attacks before breaking through via Winkler. Jayden Onia Seke added the third goal, sealing the win and putting the Mauves “safe”.

Looking ahead, Albert is optimistic about the Sunday trip to KAA Gent, saying the success “can be a boost for the next weeks”. He believes Anderlecht has rediscovered its football and colours, and that Gand is now “very reachable” with a good chance for the club.

The victory arrives at a crucial moment, offering Anderlecht a platform to confirm their resurgence in the domestic league while building momentum in Europe.
