Anderlecht impresses in Poland with convincing Europa League display

RSC Anderlecht secured a convincing 0-3 victory in Poland against Jagiellonia Białystok, giving the Brussels side their first points in the Europa League. The win was characterised by high intensity, individual quality and efficient finishing.

Polish press reacts harshly

The Polish media were particularly critical of the home side; Goal.pl wrote that Jagiellonia had “gone down on its knees” and labelled the Anderlecht team as hopeless in the Europa League. Sport.pl emphasised that the 0-3 defeat was not the biggest problem, but a painful lesson about playing at a higher European level. The press mainly praised the intensity with which the visitors played.

A defensive blunder in the 21st minute was ruthlessly punished by Mihajlo Cvetkovic, who scored the first goal. In the first half Anderlecht registered nine attempts on goal compared with just two from Jagiellonia, and clearly had more successful passes and ball contacts in the penalty area. The Polish defence was handed a costly bill.

Coach Siemieniec and player reactions

Coach Adrian Siemieniec had warned beforehand about the intensity of the Belgian side, a warning that was fully confirmed after the match. He admitted that “the 0-3 result does not look good on the match sheet”, but stressed that athletes must not give up. Striker Nik Prelec was also critical and said: “We could have done much better; we gave away a free goal.”

Prelec added that conceding a goal is “frustrating” and makes it difficult to win a match. The analysis by Sport.pl concluded that Jagiellonia struggled to apply pressure or build dangerous counter‑attacks, underscoring the painful lesson.
