Peixoto’s debut line‑up puts Krejci in Wolves XI for Friday clash

Peixoto’s first league test

Peixoto was named Rob Edwards’ successor in the summer, a surprise move by the Wanderers. Despite a slow market, he enjoyed a full pre‑season, highlighted by a comfortable 3‑0 win over Port Vale in the EFL Cup. The new Championship season officially begins on August 14 when Wolves welcome Blackburn to Molineux.

Goalkeeper dilemma for Wolves

The goalkeeping spot remains uncertain. Dan Bentley featured in pre‑season and could be match‑fit, but Portugal international Sa is regarded as the superior option and is expected to start despite limited pre‑season minutes.

Key outfield selections

Right‑back Kieran Trippier is a certainty and is likely to wear the captain’s armband. Colombian defender Mosquera has shown pace in recovery, offering defensive solidity. Toti Gomes, who captained pre‑season, has struggled, so Krejci should be given the nod at left‑back.

At left‑back, Hugo Bueno, who featured in pre‑season, is favoured over David Moller and Wolfe, the latter still awaiting game time after returning from the World Cup. André, who signed a new contract, is expected to start when fit, providing a class act in midfield. Zimbabwe international Munetsi, after a loan to Paris FC, impressed in pre‑season and will be preferred over Tommy Doyle.

Wide‑area options are limited; Rodrigo Gomes and Mateus Mane are set to start, with new signing Rafiki Said unavailable for several months. Spanish youngster Lopez, who scored against Port Vale, continues his strong start, while Mane, retained after last season’s relegation, aims to improve his decision‑making in the final third.
