Walker backs Manchester City’s trophy legacy as club fights appeal
Former Burnley right‑back Kyle Walker reflected on the glittering nights he spent at Manchester City, insisting that the club’s trophy cabinet cannot be erased despite a looming appeal. The commission said more than £830 million of owner funding was used to inflate revenues through a series of sham arrangements.

The club’s statement, released on Friday, described the opinion as riddled with material errors of law, principle and fact, and asserted that “the club is innocent of the accusations” and that “irrefutable evidence” supports its position.

Walker’s defence of the players’ achievements

Walker, who spent eight years at Manchester City from 2017 to 2025, highlighted the 12 major domestic honours and the Champions League triumph he collected during that period. “Obviously it doesn’t look great,” he said, “but the lads spent many great years celebrating trophies and that’s something they can’t take away from us.”

He added that the fans who travelled across the country and abroad to Istanbul for the treble night also deserve to keep those memories, even as the legal battle continues.

“It’s something we probably don’t want to talk about because we want to be looked upon as winning them trophies the right way,” Walker admitted, noting the difficulty of discussing the issue while preserving the club’s reputation.

Walker concluded that the outcome now rests with the appeal, saying, “Whatever will be, will be, and it’s just down to the appeal now and what goes from there.”
