Paris FC's Samir Chergui faces fresh setback after starting role
Under the floodlights at Stade Sébastien Charléty, Algerian international Samir Chergui stepped onto the pitch for Paris FC only minutes after a 90‑minute cameo for Algeria against Zambia, but a physical problem forced his substitution in the 66th minute of a match that ended 1‑0 to Lorient.
Chergui returned from the international break having featured for Algeria in a 90‑minute friendly against Zambia. He was immediately slotted into Paris FC’s starting line‑up for the trip to Lorient.
Rosenior backs Chergui for Lorient trip
Manager Liam Rosenior confirmed his confidence in the defender, naming him among the starters for the away clash. The decision underscored Rosenior’s willingness to rely on Chergui despite his recent injury record.
A little over an hour into the encounter, Chergui collapsed after a physical knock and remained on the ground. He was withdrawn for Otávio in the 66th minute.
Two minutes later Gabin Bernardeau struck for Lorient, securing a 1‑0 victory. The win handed Paris FC its first league defeat of the season.
Recurring injuries cloud Chergui’s future
Chergui endured a prolonged spell out of action from May 2024 to January 2025. Throughout the 2025‑2026 campaign he has been repeatedly hampered by hamstring problems, limiting his ability to maintain continuity.
Paris FC have not disclosed the precise nature of the new injury nor projected a recovery timetable. The defender will now await medical examinations to determine the severity and any further time away from the pitch.
Beyond his club duties, Chergui remains a regular feature in the Algerian national side, having featured in the recent friendly against Zambia. His absence could force the Algerian coach to look for alternatives ahead of upcoming qualifiers. Paris FC will also miss his experience as they seek to stabilise their defence.
The setback adds to the club’s concerns about squad depth as the season progresses. Chergui’s availability will be crucial for Paris FC’s ambitions in the French league.
