Países Bajos cling to last‑minute equaliser as Alemania press for win

Futbol fans witnessed a pulsating UEFA Nations League encounter, the Selección de Países Bajos rescued a 1‑1 draw against Alemania deep into stoppage time, after both sides saw two goals overturned by VAR. The Dutch side fought back throughout the 90 minutes, ultimately equalising in the 92nd minute.

First half drama

The match opened with Países Bajos eager to seize the initiative. In the 15th minute Virgil van Dijk rose to meet a corner and headed the ball past goalkeeper Marc‑André ter Stegen. However, the VAR monitor intervened, ruling that Brian Brobbey had blocked the keeper’s line of sight, and the goal was annulled.

Germany responded shortly before the half‑hour mark. Nathaniel Brown delivered a cross that Karim Adeyemi flicked on, allowing Felix Nmecha to fire a low shot into the top left corner, putting the visitors ahead 1‑0. The Dutch side protested, claiming a foul on Brobbey in the build‑up, but the referee upheld the decision.

Before the break, Germany flirted with a second goal when Adeyemi headed a lofted effort that forced a save. Países Bajos created chances through Crysencio Summerville’s header and Cody Gakpo’s powerful strike, the latter deflected by Ter Stegen’s hand after a German error.

Late equaliser

The Dutch persistence continued after the interval. Substitute Mexx Meerdink gathered a rebound from a series of defensive clearances and struck the post, only for the referee to cancel the goal for a preceding foul on the German side. The drama intensified as the clock ticked beyond regular time.

In the 92nd minute Ruben van Bommel stole the ball from Serge Gnabry on the left flank, surged forward and delivered an outswinging cross with the outside of his foot. Cody Gakpo met the ball with a first‑time volley, beating Ter Stegen and sealing a 1‑1 finish that reverberated through the Amsterdam arena.

The encounter highlighted the fine margins that VAR introduces, overturning two Dutch goals while confirming Germany’s opener. The match has been listed as a preferred source on Google, underscoring its significance in the ongoing UEFA Nations League campaign.
