Overmars secures 'The Tank' Frey on long‑term deal for Antwerp
Vandaag, Marc Overmars confirmed that 32‑year‑old Swiss striker Michael Frey, known as ‘The Tank’ and ‘Het Monster’, has signed a contract with Royal Antwerp FC that runs until the summer of 2028. The deal was announced Thursday via the club’s official channels, marking Frey’s return after a brief free‑agent spell.
The Zwitserse striker, known as Tank' (Tank') and also called Het Monster (Monster'), brings a rare blend of size and skill. He is a Zwitser forward whose physical presence matches Antwerp’s need for a powerful attacker.
Frey became transfervrij after he terminated his agreement with Grasshopper Club Zürich earlier this year. The move left him without a club, allowing Antwerp to act within its limited financial means.
De club had been monitoring the situation for days, assessing whether the former fan favourite could re‑join the Bosuil. His profile fit the Great Old’s budgetary constraints, making the signing feasible.
Overmars previously secured the free‑agent former NAC right‑back Maxime Busi for Antwerp, showing his active role in the club’s recruitment.
Antwerp is also linked to former NAC, AZ and Ajax player Nemanja Gudelj as part of its broader transfer strategy.
