Netherlands secures Pot 1 under Xavi Hernández

The Dutch national team, under Xavi Hernández, has already taken an important step towards Euro 2028 early, because thanks to eight points from the first four Nations‑League matches, the Oranje is guaranteed a place in Pot 1 in the qualification draw.

In those four matches, the Netherlands beat Serbia twice, while draws were recorded against Germany and Greece. These results gave the team eight points.

With those eight points, the Oranje, together with Greece, sits at the top of the group; Germany is three points behind, and Serbia remains winless after four defeats.

Nations League determines pot allocation

This season the Nations‑League position is especially important, because the top three nations from each Division‑A group earn a place in Pot 1 for Euro qualification. With two matches still to play, the Netherlands can no longer fall out of the top three.

Thus, the Oranje avoids a number of European powerhouses in the draw. England, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece have already secured their places in Pot 1. Belgium, Germany, Croatia and Norway still need to confirm their protected status to also get into Pot 1. The next internationals are in November: the Netherlands host Greece first and play Germany three days later. To reach the quarter‑finals of the Nations League, the Oranje must ultimately finish among the top two of the group.
