One-year deal sees Ashley Maynard-Brewer join Sheffield Wednesday

One-year deal: Sheffield Wednesday have signed goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer on a one-year contract, the 27-year-old arriving as a free agent after departing Dundee United earlier this summer. The club announced the move as part of its summer recruitment drive.

Maynard-Brewer made 12 appearances for Dundee United last season after joining the Scottish Premiership side in January. Those games gave him exposure in the top tier of Scottish football.

He became a free agent following his departure from Dundee United earlier this summer. The free‑agent status allowed Wednesday to complete the signing without a transfer fee.

The goalkeeper began his professional career with Charlton, where he recorded 70 league appearances for the Addicks. He then moved to the Scottish Premiership on a short‑term deal in January, adding experience in a different league.

"We believe he will be a great addition to our squad and add important competition to our goalkeeping ranks as we prepare for the challenges ahead," sporting director Simon Wilson said on the club website. Wilson highlighted the strategic importance of bolstering the goalkeeper department.

Maynard-Brewer is the second goalkeeper to join the Owls in as many days, arriving after Connal Trueman signed on Thursday. The back‑to‑back signings underline Wednesday's focus on depth between the sticks.

The twin acquisitions illustrate Sheffield Wednesday’s active approach in the goalkeeper market this July, aiming to reinforce the squad ahead of the upcoming season.
