OM's salary cap stalls Martin Terrier's Stade Rennais move

🇫🇷 By 4AllFootball ·

In the midst of the summer transfer market, 29‑year‑old striker Martin Terrier of Bayer Leverkusen finds himself on the radar of both Olympique de Marseille and Stade Rennais, but Marseille's new €100,000‑per‑month salary ceiling this summer makes a move increasingly doubtful.

Earlier reports had linked the French winger to the two clubs, giving the dossier a fresh turn as the market intensifies.

Terrier enjoys a solid reputation in France thanks to his offensive versatility, high‑level experience and a knack for decisive contributions in the final metres of play, a profile that would normally suit the ambitions of both OM and Rennes.

Olympique de Marseille has introduced a strict financial framework under owner Frank McCourt, delegating recruitment to Unique Sports Group and capping new player salaries at €100,000 gross per month, with limited exceptions up to €150,000.

That wage ceiling directly affects discussions around Terrier, whose salary expectations could exceed the newly set limits, while the club still seeks midfield reinforcements and may therefore prioritise players whose demands fit the model.

Stade Rennais also remains linked to the winger; the club knows him well from his previous spell, during which he recorded 51 goals and 24 assists in 141 appearances for Rennes, but no concrete agreement has been announced.

Terrier stays focused on his preparation with Bayer Leverkusen. After a period of injuries in Germany, some observers suggested a dip in his level, a view firmly rejected by Mohamed Toubache‑Ter, who posted: "Il est en Allemagne et les tests physiques ont été monstrueux… n’en déplaise à ceux qui disent qu’il est à la ramasse !"

He remains under contract with Bayer Leverkusen and has not yet decided his next step. A Ligue 1 return is theoretically possible, but all conditions must align – today they are not, as he is still in Germany and the physical tests have been described as monstrous, highlighting the financial and sporting criteria set by interested clubs.
