Official: Dani Carvajal signs for Getafe to revive his career

In the southern suburbs of Madrid, Getafe club officially announced the arrival of the 34‑year‑old right‑back, former captain of Real Madrid, who had been a free agent since the end of last season. The veteran, known for his experience and leadership, signs to try to revive his career.

A contract until the end of the season

The club specified that Dani Carvajal has signed an agreement that ties him to Getafe until the end of the current season. Free since the beginning of summer, he was not selected for the 2026 World Cup, which made his transfer fee‑free. The contract, lasting one year, allows him to play as soon as the transfer window closes.

A rich but injury‑plagued career

Carvajal spent 13 years at Real Madrid, tallying 450 first‑team matches and winning more than 25 trophies, including 27 major titles according to some sources. He has 51 caps for the Spanish national team, La Roja, and took part in the 2023 Nations League victory as well as the triumph at Euro 2024. However, recent seasons have been marked by serious injuries, including a cruciate ligament tear in October 2024 and a new knee injury a year later.

Getafe's context

Getafe currently sits in 14th place in La Liga with 8 points from as many games, after a heavy 3‑0 defeat to Barça on Saturday. The club, located in the southern part of the Spanish capital, hopes that Carvajal's experience will help improve its standing and aim for European qualification. If Getafe qualifies for the next round, Carvajal will then be able to compete in the Europa Conference League.
