Norwich City on red alert: Philippe Clement eyes Southampton Sam Edozie

Norwich City face a fresh crisis after left‑winger Ali Ahmed ruptured his ACL in a pre‑season friendly against Osasuna, leaving manager Philippe Clement scrambling for a replacement and eyeing Southampton Sam Edozie as a possible solution. The 23‑year‑old striker has struggled for game time at the south coast and could revive his career in the Canaries' promotion push.

Injury leaves Norwich scrambling

Ali Ahmed’s season‑ending ACL tear was confirmed during the pre‑season match against Osasuna, meaning he will miss the entire 2026/27 campaign. Mo Toure has taken Ahmed’s number 21 as a sign of solidarity, underscoring the urgency of finding a left‑wing replacement.

Philippe Clement entered July stating he did not expect many more transfers, after securing Andre Brooks, Sam Field and Bruno Alves. Nevertheless, Darlin Yongwa arrived on a free transfer to bolster the full‑back line, completing Clement’s early summer activity.

Edozie emerges as a potential solution

Southampton Sam Edozie arrived on a £10 million move to the south coast and scored six times in the 2023/24 Championship, helping the club win promotion via the play‑offs. Since then his opportunities have dwindled, with a loan spell at Anderlecht and only three starts in 18 appearances last season.

Southampton’s squad depth has grown with the £9 million signing of Lewis Dobbin and the imminent loan of Manchester City’s Divin Mubanda, further limiting Edozie’s chances and prompting reports of interest from unnamed second‑tier suitors, including Norwich.

Norwich have a reputation for nurturing young attackers, with Oscar Schwartau, Mo Toure and Jovan Makama flourishing at Carrow Road under Clement. Anis Ben Slimane, another recent success, recorded five goals and six assists in 26 games, highlighting the club’s capacity to revive careers.

If Norwich secure Edozie, they could fill Ahmed’s void and keep promotion hopes alive, while Southampton risk losing a striker to a direct rival. The club’s transfer log shows activity, and fans are invited to Add Us to stay updated on the developing story.
