Expensive Arsenal star Viktor Gyokeres faces £60m price as Berta weighs options
Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres, the £64million signing from Sporting CP in July 2025, has been linked with a £60m exit price set by club director Berta after former England forward Teddy Sheringham publicly criticised his performances.
Goal return and criticism
Gyokeres arrived at the Emirates having scored 54 goals in 52 matches for Sporting CP, a record that justified the Gunners’ £64million investment. In his debut season he managed 21 goals in 55 games, 14 of which came in the Premier League, but has failed to find the net in his last five appearances.
Former striker Teddy Sheringham told Metro that Gyokeres “still plays like a kid” and “gives the ball away” despite being 28 years old. Sheringham added that a true No 9 must hold onto the ball and that Gyokeres “should have learned this a long time ago”.
Transfer rumours and club stance
Reports suggest Juventus are interested in a £60m or higher deal, preferring an initial loan before a permanent move. Arsenal, however, have indicated they would rather negotiate a straight sale if any transfer materialises.
Fabrizio Romano noted on 23 September that clubs from Spain and other top leagues have inquired about Gyokeres, but Arsenal have consistently replied that the player is not for sale. Romano quoted the club as saying they trust Gyokeres and expect him to be vital in “tense, complicated” games.
Despite the criticism, Gyokeres has scored in all four of Sweden’s matches during the recent international break, offering a glimmer of hope for the north London side.
Arsenal’s other high‑profile forward, Eberechi Eze, remains part of the duo highlighted by the club, though no transfer speculation has surrounded him in the current reports.
Looking ahead, Arsenal have reportedly plotted a £119m double January bid for two left‑wingers, signalling continued ambition in the transfer market while Gyokeres’ future remains uncertain.
