No Eredivisie for Kerk: surprise move to Turkish Süper Lig side

On Friday, experienced winger Gyrano Kerk completed a free transfer to Turkey, ending any hope of an Eredivisie reunion this summer. He immediately signed with Erzurumspor FK, the newly crowned champions of Turkey’s second tier who will compete in the Süper Lig next season.

Erzurumspor FK played last season in Turkey’s second level but secured the championship, guaranteeing a place in the Süper Lig. The club’s ascent offers Kerk a platform to restart his career after a period without a contract.

Kerk spent the previous seasons with Royal Antwerp FC, where in his first season he helped the team win the Belgian double under coach Mark van Bommel. He later extended his stay, contributing to Antwerp’s Belgian Supercup triumph.

Twente miss out as Kerk chooses Turkish adventure in top flight

During his time at Antwerp, Kerk made 139 appearances, scoring 26 goals and providing 18 assists. His contract expired this summer, similar to teammate Vincent Janssen, who moved to Portland Timbers.

Earlier in his career, Kerk also featured for FC Utrecht and Lokomotiv Moscow. A potential move to FC Twente was discussed, but that option has now been definitively removed.

Kerk’s move underscores a shift from the Belgian league to the Turkish top flight, marking a new chapter after his free‑agent period.
